When we came up with the concept for this year’s mixtape about a year ago, we would have never imagined that we will be releasing it in such a sad and painful context.
Deceit, as understood by us and as presented to the artists invited to participate on this album, was as much about fairytales and playful trickery as about fake news, lies and uncertainty. In the light of current events in the US and in Poland, our personal interpretation of this album unfortunately now rings closer to the latter topics. The prevalent hate speech, lies spread by national media, violation of human rights and outright crimes condoned by those in power – all of that makes the release of this mixtape much more bitter. That is why we’ve decided that we will be donating all of the proceeds from this album towards Aborcja Bez Granic organisation. Right now, Poland has the strictest abortion laws in the European Union and is looking to increase the restrictions.
Furthermore, we highly encourage you to donate to various funds set up to help protesters in the US, the list can be found here: ujeb.se/NmEn7. We will not use this album description to elaborate on our stance on the issues of systemic racism nor will we say more about the artistic content of this album, because we really do not want to make it about ourselves as the situation both the US and in Europe is far more important than any music. However, we want it to be clear: we are all against cherry picking black culture as our scene would not exist without black music and we will be educating ourselves and our listeners about the roots of the culture that we all benefit from and are fortunate enough to be a part of. BAS stands with all those protesting against racism, oppression, violence, social inequality and police brutality.
That being said, if you send us a receipt of your donation exceeding 10 USD to one of the funds listed above – we will send you a 100% discount code for our Bandcamp profile, to use for any amount of releases. Time to put your money where your mouth is.
